Discover Freeth’m: Creating Towns for Genuine Lovers of Personal Freedom

Hi, I’m Zuzana and I’m on the journey to build decentralized, sovereign towns and communities in beautiful, natural locations around the world. The project I’m involved with is called Freeth’m, and together with Or, the founder, we are creating self-sufficient towns for freedom seekers. Labels might be unnecessary, but if you consider yourself a libertarian, anarcho-capitalist, bitcoiner, homeschooling advocate, or simply a genuine lover of personal freedom, Freeth’m is for you.

Freeth’m emerged from the p(l)andemic. As a digital nomad who was living in Beijing during that time, Or quickly realized that cities were among the least convenient places to be. Personal freedom was quickly being taken away, restrictions kept increasing—and so has the cost of living in major cities all around the world ever since. Focusing on solutions rather than obstacles, the idea of building an entire small decentralized, fully self-sufficient town was born.

While real-world connections were put on hold, the online world was thriving. Or quickly connected with other aficionados of personal freedom, privacy, bitcoin and intentional community building. Knowing that you are not alone on your quest gives you a sense of support and hefty inspiration. Or started connecting with people from the realm of free cities, network states, intentional communities; architects, community creators, lawyers and others who have joined him on the Freeth’m journey.

The main foundation of Freeth’m lies in providing a safe haven for individuals who truly value their lives. Live and let live is our motto and we build and create around it. We abide by the non-aggression principle and believe that living and letting live produces a rich, vibrant community where people inspire and uplift each other, and are able to truly live their best lives.

Each Freeth’m town will be capped at roughly 500 homes. While there will be 24/7 security, smaller towns offer more safety in general. Knowing your neighbors also provides a more secure environment, both externally and internally for your peace of mind. Our towns’ architecture is structured so that every house stands on its own, providing physical privacy and the option of not interacting with your neighbors. The several rich amenities that will be available for rent enable you to be as self-sufficient as possible (via growing your own food, for instance), ultimately resulting in more independence and freedom.

The first Freeth’m town location will be Portugal. We are currently in talks with the local municipality that has been very open to our proposition, which is very helpful. Portugal is also a great starting point thanks to its multiple rural areas, as well as several projects and businesses that revolve around similar values as us. We are close to purchasing a piece of land that is located fairly centrally in Portugal and is boasting natural water springs and edible trees that will also help with self-sufficiency in our town.

We aim to attract not only individuals such as digital nomads or remote workers, but also families of all sizes, and our first location is wonderful because it is especially safe for kids (no cars in our town and beautiful nature to explore). Moreover, Portugal also allows homeschooling, which might be very positive news for those families that will join us from countries that do not allow decentralized means of education.

Ultimately, we want to offer sanctuaries where each individual, regardless of their age or physical condition, can live their most joyful life however they intend (without infringing on others, of course). Your perception might be different, but to us, the biggest benefits of living in a Freeth’m town lie in the connection with nature and surrounding yourself with greenery, fresh and clean air, eating locally-grown food, as well as the opportunity to live a peaceful life surrounded by like-minded individuals who share common values, yet are diverse enough to inspire each other.

Our long-term plan is to build several Freeth’m towns in different jurisdictions. Thanks to a global membership, residents will have the opportunity to freely migrate between them whenever they wish, potentially resulting in tax benefits. Both fiat currency and bitcoin will be accepted to provide options that many residents will appreciate.

Looking at the land we are about to purchase, we are feeling beyond excited: pure nature, the ability to breathe expansively, total reduction of city noise, pollution, and unnecessary restrictions of any kind. All in all, we know that there will always be some bumps along the way, but because we will be building with prefab and locally-grown materials, the first town should be coming to life towards Q3/4 2025.
