What a Travel Coach Does
A travel advisor books your trip and earns a commission on the booking. A travel coach does something different. You help a client work out why they want to go, what they want the trip or the move to change, and which place fits. You ask good questions, listen closely, and help them choose with clarity.
Clients come to a travel coach for many reasons: a break after a loss, a new career, a move abroad. You work with the reason behind the trip, and the trip follows from it.
Where I Started
I know what it is to leave a job with no income to fall back on.
In 2021, I was tired of negative news about travel, so I started a podcast and asked for guests who believed in what travel had done for them. Sahara Rose De Vore answered. She was launching The Travel Coach Network, and I followed her business from then on. She had started it when the planes stopped, and it was still around and growing. I figured she had to be doing something right.
A couple of months before I left my job as managing editor of an expat magazine, I joined her program. I wanted to build my own business as a coach specializing in relocation, for the people who wrote to me as an editor asking, “Where can we go to escape the New World Order?” I did not have boots on the ground for them then. I do now.
I’m certified through The Travel Coach Network, whose program is accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF).

- You want a guaranteed income. Certification gives you training and credibility, and it does not promise clients or earnings.
- You want to book travel for a commission. That is travel advising, which is a different career.
